JAPTOWN LIQUOR CURB FAVORED

Augmenting its recent requests that Federal agencies provide financial assistance for slum clearance work in the Western Addition district being evacuated by Japanese, the supervisor’s committee on city planning today urged the board to seek a curb on liquor licenses in the area.

It recommended to the board that an appeal be made to the State Board of Equalization for careful investigations into the character and type of business planned by any applicants for liquor licenses.

On behalf of Japanese property owners, the committee proposed asking Congress for a law to declare a moratorium on mortgages against all evacuated Japanese.

The Western Addition area in question is surrounded by Ellis, Gough, California and Fillmore-sts.
